Why I created The Golden Crown Project
I created The Golden Crown Project because too often, our elders—especially those living in nursing homes—become invisible. These are the people who raised families, built communities, served others, and lived full, meaningful lives, yet in their later years they are rarely celebrated or seen as they once were.
As a photographer, I’ve witnessed the power of being truly seen. A portrait can change how someone feels about themselves. When I imagined placing a crown on the head of a nursing home resident, I didn’t see a costume—I saw recognition. I saw dignity restored. I saw pride, joy, and a reminder that they are still royalty.
This project was created to give our elders a moment that is entirely about them—honoring their stories, their strength, and their humanity. It’s about reminding residents, families, and caregivers that a lifetime of living deserves to be honored with beauty and respect.
The Golden Crown Project exists to say: You matter. You are seen. And a lifetime like yours deserves to be honored like royalty.
